Mull of Galloway Marathon Trail and Ardwell Chalets Sandhead 10
This event which was held on 18 September 2021 and which was formerly organised by the Rotary Club of Stranraer had been taken over by Acorn Trails. Their first marathon was moved from June to September after Covid restrictions were eased. Fantastic weather and committed runners combined to undertake the twin challenges of the Mull of Galloway Trail Marathon and the Ardwell Chalets Sandhead 10.
A spokesperson from Acorn Trails said "Despite the change of date the weather was excellent. The stunning multi-terrain route showcased the area fantastically.
"An outstanding performance from Stuart Murdoch, an unattached runner exceeded the race team's expectations with an awesome time (3hrs 44min 8sec). John McCabe from Troon Tortoises finished second (4hrs 12min 20sec) with the podium completed by the first female, Julie Atkinson of Lothian Running Club (4hrs 14min 1sec)
"The Ardwell Chalets Sandhead 10-mile race was led home in exceptional style by Portobella Running Club member Johnny Lawson (1hr 8min 21sec). The other steps were filled by first female Lindsay Stewart from Dumfries Harriers (1hr 12min 17sec) and in third place, Michael Thomson from Galloway Harriers (1hr 16min 5sec)."
A very welcome barbeque adjacent to the Harbour Master's Office was provided by members of the Rotary Club in the afternoon. More information about the event can be found on the Acorn Trails website.
